"Necklift (“Chin Tuck”)

Before & After: Patient

| This
patient was unhappy with her hereditary chin and neck.
She underwent neck contouring to improve the appearance
of her neck and give definition to her jaw line. With
the neck contouring operation, fat was removed using
liposuction and neck muscles were used to create uplift. |
Q. The skin on my neck
is getting loose and it's adding years to my appearance.
My face is fine but the neck makes it seem older. What's
the solution?
A. A "chin tuck",
also called a neck lift, would be the likely solution for
your problem. Some people only need liposuction, others
do best with a neck lift which is part of a combined face
and neck lift. For others muscles of the neck are tightened
as to create an internal girdle to maintain the youthful
angles of the neck. Some people do best with just a chin
augmentation, in which a piece of custom-fitted silastic
is added to better define the shape of the chin and to stretch
the skin of the neck. Finally, there are other individuals
best served by a combination of these procedures. These
may be performed in the plastic surgeon's surgical facility
on healthy men and women into the seventh decade of their
lives.
Chin Augmentation (Mentoplasty)
Q. My whole life I have had a “weak”
chin. I have always been self conscious about it. What
can I do to correct this?
A. Your problem
is very common. We see many patients with a similar dilemma
that you describe. Most patients are unhappy with their
profile and want their chin to appear “stronger”
Along with the weak chin usually come a poorly defined
neck angle. The weak chin is usually corrected with a
custom contoured silastic soft implant that is inserted
wither through the floor of the mouth or through a mall
incision under the chin. It is placed against the tip
of the chin bone. The results are dramatic and the new
profile significantly improved. Additionally, your neckline
may be enhanced by liposuction or muscle tightening. This
procedure takes approximately an hour under sedation anesthesia.
